RIP: Franka

Big chains and Mass Market fashion have killed yet another of my favorite shops in Madrid: FRANKA
Franka set itself out from crowd, carrying Argentine labels like Las Pepas, Vestite y Andate, and Fujimoda... fun, funky edgy pieces that didn't break the bank and every other girl wasn't going to be walking down the street in the same outfit. Unfortunately, it seems rising rents and bad taste (lol) are pushing small boutiques like this out of the Madrileno neighborhood called FUENCARRAL. This area, once known for it's underground boutique shops has basically become a fashion strip for big brand shops like DIESEL, GSUS, Pimpkie, Zara, Mango, Blanco, and really bad shoe stores. Don't get me wrong, I love me some MANGO every once in a while but it's really sad to see the little guys like this go and the clothes in some of these stores just seem to get more hoochie by the minute. For god's sake can someone stop embellishing jeans and tshirts with bedazzle rhinestones? It's not a cute look. That or perhaps I've lost sight and we are already going back to some scary Britney mid 1990's look.
