Brooklyn is having their own Bastille Day on Sunday 13th of July;
outside Bar Tabac 128 Smith Street,
Brooklyn NY 11201 718-923-0918
On hand to help set the festive mood: food and drink from the hood's many beloved restaurants, French and otherwise, and music by local bands like retro jazz and swing group Blue Orchid Orchestra and French gypsy maestros the Francois Wiss Ensemble.
Bar Tabac will be having Brooklyn Petanque Tournament, in front of the restaurant. where America's largest petanque tournament (a French version of the better-known bocce) hosts over 80 international teams with players from as far away as Thailand.
FYI:Pétanqueis a form of boules where the goal is, while standing with the feet together in a small circle, to throw metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball called a cochonnet (jack). The game is normally played on hard dirt or gravel, but can also be played on grass or other surfaces. Sandy beaches are not suitable. Similar games are bocce and bowls.
