We're taking our annual trip to Espana, and making some special side trips to Paris and Berlin. We hope to have lots to report on. Just landed in Madrid this AM...trying to re-cooperate from the redeye from NYC....no shopping today, just lots of eating and sleeping...One of the amazing things about summer in Spain is the fact that it doesn't get dark until after 1030pm at night! I've just finished dinner at 11pm and was watching the live telecast of Jamiroquai at the Rock in Rio concert here in Madrid....
What is Rock in Rio?
Music festival Rock in Rio returns in 2008, but don't let the name confuse you. A line-up of huge acts perform at a purpose-built Ciudad de Rock (Rock City) in Arganda del Rey, roughly 20km south-east of Madrid.
In the past, this event has travelled to Rio and Portugal, with more A-list stars than you can shake a red-carpet at. AC/DC, Iron Maiden, George Michael and Guns N Roses have all played here in the past.
The event promises to be huge - the organisers expect to cater for over 500,000 people. The festival programme features artists ranging from Neil Young and Bob Dylan to Amy Winehouse, Shakira and Jamiroquai, as well as Alejandro Sanz, The Police, Jack Johnson, Franz Ferdinand and Lenny Kravitz. Ciudad de Rock includes an outdoor clubbing space and even an ice rink and snowboarding slopes for those who want take a cool break from the sweaty mosh pits.
