project yawnway

This season is filled with nothing interesting so far. Some lame characteratures and a popuri of gals...there is ms. leather, boy leather and suede. Maybe after they weed 'em out it might improve? The fact that the show is moving to LA and over to the lifetime monologues channel disappoints me.

LYM Picks for the Weekend - Go, Shop, See

Saturday:

PS1
We've still haven't unpacked from our trip, so after finishing some tedious chores and tending to the shop (which by the way is starting their crazy summer sale) we will head out to PS1 to catch DFA/James Murphy and few other fab dj's get it moving on the dancefloor. This is our first trip to PS1 and I'm really curious about all this hype about Olafur Eliasson. People were talking about him in Madrid and I think this is like an extension a show taking place there. Don't forget if you are MOMA member you get in free. Your guest can also cut the scary line and proceed to the front. Sorry, they will have to pay but not waiting in the line is a super treat.

Olafur Eliasson
Reversed Waterfall, 1998

P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center is pleased to present three works from the Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson. All works were previously shown at P.S.1's presentation of the survey Take your time: Olafur Eliasson. These key remaining works include: Take your time (2008), Reversed waterfall (1998), Beauty (1993). On view through September 1.

Warm Up is from 2 to 6pm but it's always nice to go early and check out the exhibits. P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center is located at 22-25 Jackson Avenue at 46th Avenue in Long Island City, Queens, across the Queensboro Bridge from midtown Manhattan. It is easily accessible by bus and subway. Traveling by subway, visitors should take either the E or V to 23 Street-Ely Avenue (note that the V does not run on weekends); the 7 to 45 Road-Courthouse Square; or the G to Court Square or 21 Street-Van Alst. Visitors may also take the Q67 bus to Jackson and 46th Avenues or the B61 to Jackson Avenue.

The Quarantine of the Ostentatious - BBlessing

The Quarantine of the Ostentatious

The installation of funerary birdhouses investigates the full spectrum of the life cycle of a species. The empty, blackened vessels represent the final stage of the cycle, where a once decadent and ostentatious display has turned sour. The implied narrative, derived from the relics of the process, suggests the presence of plague, the shrouding and mourning of death, quarantine, and the evocative ambiance of absence.

The installation was created and developed by artist/designer Daniel Jackson for BBlessing, and will continue through September.

BBlessing's Summer Sale continues Friday, July 25th

Lou Reed brings Berlin to Madrid

Lou Reed will perform his 1973 album ‘Berlin’ in its entirety tonight in Madrid at Conde Duque. This only happens every 30 years so it's a super special event. Sadly, we flew back from Spain yesterday or we would definitely be there. The album revolves around the story of two lovers set against the background of a then exisiting Berlin wall.

The film Berlin by Julian Schnabel, which debut months back at the Tribeca Film Festival should be coming out soon and the film is shot in such a way that you would swear you were sitting there in the concert so if you don't happen to be in Europe the next few weeks you can still check that out.

Final European Tour Dates

July 22 Madrid Conde Duque
July 25 Girona Portaferrada Festival
July 26 Benidorm Bullring ...

Pictures from Paris

now that we've all seen Sienna's tits (last post), let's see what's up in Paris.

Overall, the city hasn't changed so much...except for in the shopping department...chain stores seem to be taken over as they are everywhere. Chanel is still where it's always been (although it seems they've added some extra locations). Best shopping in my mind (if you don't have loads of cash to blow at Lanvin or YSL) is to go to Le Maurais and Oberkampf. Aside from all the well know semi high end french favorites, there were tons of good shoe shops. We saw some familiar brands (for instance Repetto) but it seems the french selection is a bit trendier than I've seen in NYC. I was lusting for some electric blue and black Repettos and neon lace Melissas. I also stopped by the Maud Frizon boutique on Saint Honore. They were having a super sale but of course none of the shoes I wanted were in my size.

Old School

A full block of Chanel on Rue Cambon - I've died and gone to heaven

Pierre Cardin - love it! so retro 60's

New School

Unfortunately COLETTE was closed for renovations. They had a mini pop up in Place de Marche but it is so mini it you can see everything from the window.

Rayban Madness on the Champs. They had every imaginable two tone combination you could think of. 180 euros. Ouch.

Oberkampf had some great vintage shops and it's always nice to stop in Cafe Charbon for a drink or two or three...close by is the Republique area where I stopped by SURFACE TO AIR and picked up an oversized dip dyed tshirt dress and a cute basic polo (they were also having their summer sale). They also had some awesome women's pieces that I have not seen in the US but I cringed when I did the math with the exchange rate. Hopefully Opening Ceremony will be carrying some of this stuff soon and it will probably cost less than in does in Paris!

Surface to Air on Rue Charlot

My last stops in Bastille included a fantastic Vintage shop on Rue de La Roquette - the shop had these two huge clear plastic bags of boots, worn down 501's (great for shorts), and a buttload of black basic Member's only jackets. I could have bought like 20 pairs of boots but there is no way for me to get them home. Oh yeah, and they were having a sale too!

Art in Paris. I had no time to stop inside the Louvre or any other big museum so I decided instead to stop by the Museum of Photography to check out the Annie Leibovitz show that I missed in Brooklyn. Really great, although I felt it was a bit small. Other exhibits showing there were good - pics of Cuba and the cafe looked like a nice stop but I had no time.

As for street art, there was a lot less than I remember. Lots of bad graffiti and a few stencil pieces. Nothing like in Berlin.

Sienna Miller looking wild in Italy.

What happen to her, she went down hill since she left Jude Law?

The old days.

Ludlow 38: STARSHIP – various sketches for leaving the room.Opening on 25 July @ 7pm. FREE ADMISSION!

Opening with DJ Andy Grier (Thieves Like US)

Ludlow 38
38 Ludlow St. (between Grand and Hester) New York, NY 10002
Free admission
Gallery Hours: Friday–Sunday, 12–8pm

The Goethe-Institut New York and Kunstverein München present STARSHIP – various sketches for leaving the room, the latest exhibition at Ludlow 38, a new downtown satellite space for innovative contemporary art.
Under the title various sketches for leaving the room, STARSHIP 11 negotiates several demarcation lines and passage ways of real and fictional journeys through national geographies, public places, and private spaces. The latest issue is the result of a close collaboration with the artist Henrik Olesen.

The magazine launch will be contextualized by a collaborative installation: a suite of possible entrances and exits, reflecting the territorial dialectics of marking off and crossing through, being invited and inviting, being producers and artists as well as being inside or preferably outside.
The exhibition also includes a visual research project on excess and sustainability initiated by STARSHIP: Seinesgleichen geschieht - The Like of It Now Happens, which includes 19 posters and a plastic bag by Simone Gilges, Judith Hopf, Daniel Pflumm, Bless, Nils Norman, Stefan Dillemuth, Christoph Schaefer, Nina Rhode, Sebastian Lütgert, Henrik Olesen, 4000, Michaela Eichwald, Diplomacy in Reflex, Gunter Reski, Klaus Weber, Deborah Schamoni, Florian Zeyfang, Ariane Müller, Martin Ebner, and Hans-Christian Dany

This looks like a really cool event and check out both websites; they are in English
so you don't have to read them in German.
