Judy Berlin Screening

JUDY BERLIN
Eric Mendelsohn, US, 1999, 97m

“Some movies are too good to miss. ‘Judy Berlin’ is one of them.” – Rolling Stone

In this perceptive, suburban drama, a solar eclipse descends on the lonely inhabitants of a Long Island town as they try to cope with their unhappy lives and make connections. At the center is a failed filmmaker, who mopes about town until he happens upon the bubbly Judy Berlin, a former high- school acquaintance and aspiring actress. Boasting an all-star cast of New York actors including Edie Falco and Madeline Kahn, and shot in sumptuous black-and-white, the film is an incredibly sensitive and humorous debut. Winner of the Directing award at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival, the film went on to be an Opening night film for New Directors/New Films. Sadly, it was also Madeline Kahn’s final film.
