Dance! with DJs Giovanni Escalera + Amylu
Monday , September 8 , 9:00 pm
Guadalajara native Giovanni Escalera (Sweet Electra) individually mixes American and English hits from the 80’s with well-known Spanish-sung songs, from Mexican Arrabal to Latin American ballads. These eminently danceable mash-ups capture the vibrant jumble of cultures experienced by Mexicans living in New York City, mingling nostalgia for both foreign and local tunes of their youth.
Amylu (Nacotheque) collects new music from all over Latin America and Spain, assembling an enviable collection of music, new and old, popular and obscure rock n' roll, new wave, indie rock, baile-funk, nouveau-eighties, electropop, disco, cumbia, punk, and hip-hop.
Brooklyn restaurant and nighttime hotspot Hecho En Dumbo (derived from the official “Hecho En Mexico” seal), delivers a true taste of cosmopolitan Mexican culture via chef Danny Mena’s authentic menu, and a regular line-up of live music and DJs. As part of New York Mexico Restaurant week, Hecho En Dumbo offers a “parrillada”--a grilled platter of house cured and smoked meats, chorizo, and fresh seasonal vegetables. Coupling organic, locally grown produce with a passion for his native cuisine, chef Danny Mena crafts his version of classic rustic staples, ensuring that each tortilla, pressed by hand, and every plate of guacamole, made fresh to order, meet a superior standard of quality and authenticity.
