Viva Italia!
Ciao from Italy!
Today is my last day in Italy, and Im currently spending it in Venice. I arrived here a couple of days ago, fresh from Florence. Today we attempted to visit the Palazzo Grassi, a popular contemporary museum, however it was closed due to the change of exhibitions. While I was in Florence, I was lucky enough to see the CONTRA MODA exhibit, which featured such legendary designers as Issey Miyaki, Madame Gres, and Dolce & Gabbana (which believe it or not, are not as popular in Italy as the Japanese designers). Yesterday, I went to the Island of Murano, where you can see Masters and their Assistants blowing glass, melding it into such forms as glasses, chandeliers, or figurines. We were warned against purchasing fakes in Italy that could easily have been shipped in from China, and to constantly be on the lookout for the Murano Glass sticker.
More to come when I return...
(These Italian keyboards are quite tricky and my internet is running out!!!!)
Arrivederci!

Spaniards in the Spotlight
The Spaniards are currently on cloud 9 with Penelope winning the spot as Vogue's covergirl for the prestigious December issue and her fashion line debuting at Mango (which by the way should have been opened by now but seems to be running into delays). She and her sister look divine on the building scaffolding....that and she may have found the perfect mate....Javier Bardem....this could be it! I also suspect Javier is going to get his 15 minutes of fame soon... being casted in two back to back flicks...he was SO good in the Coen Brother's COUNTRY OF OLD MEN.....yeah, the haircut was scary but his acting was on hit and I was scared &**less throughout the film. Go see it if you haven't already.

EL MUSEO’S BIENAL: THE (S) FILES
EL MUSEO’S BIENAL: THE (S) FILES, already opened runs through January 6, 2008. Exhibition celebrating the experimental, immediate pulse of contemporary art. “The (S) Files” are literally “the selected files” of 51 artists. Nov. 28 Panel discussion: with gallerists and Latino artists. El Museo del Barrio, 1230 5th Ave. www.elmuseo.org
Many of the works on display have been chosen from the unsolicited submissions to El Museo’s Artists’ Archive over the past two years. This selection is the most expansive to date, with 51 artists showcasing work in traditional mediums such as drawing, painting and photography, as well as more experimental projects incorporating light, sound, and interactive elements, mobile sculptures and site-specific installations.
The exhibition has been curated by Elvis Fuentes, Associate Curator, El Museo del Barrio, and E. Carmen Ramos, Assistant Curator for Cultural Engagement, The Newark Museum, NJ. In addition, guest curator Rodolfo Kronfle Chambers (independent curator, Guayaquil , Ecuador ), has included in the exhibition a selection of works by five artists from Ecuador , this year’s invited guest country.
Even among the diversity within the works presented in El Museo’s Bienal: The (S) Files 007, the curators recognize several recurrent themes that have emerged organically within the exhibition. Some of the artists reference the hyper-reality of contemporary culture of violence and war, often in relation to social perceptions of masculinity. Others explore the public dimension of art and examine issues of labor, immigration, language and identity, frequently documenting the artist’s experience or citing art historical traditions. Resounding another global concern, many of the artists approach the environment and the natural world through landscapes real or imaginary, most especially evident in the selection of work from the five artists from Ecuador.

Red Carpet Disaster
Many of you probably don't know that 80's glam boys Duran Duran have been in town playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway. We were lucky enough to catch 3 of the 10 show run before it got closed down by the Broadway worker's strike.
Fortunately, Duran Duran found a way to move the last 3 shows to ROSELAND....bad news is the venue is a large standing room only space opposed to the tiny 1000 person Barrymore (which by the way, is gorgeous!). The new album, titled "RED CARPET MASSACRE" officially comes out tomorrow (Nov 13th). It's not as bad as one might think (Timbaland produced many songs on the record). Anyhow, here is a pic of sexy Simon...
if anyone has any extra tickets for tomorrow, let me know!!!!!!!!!
