Cinema Tropical and Fresa Salvaje are joining forces for the first time to present CINEMA SALVAJE, an exciting, innovative and original program featuring a carefully selected mash-up of live feed videos that will be projected into a big screen plus music by acclaimed DJs from Mexico City.
The evening’s program will be selected by our internationally prestigious team of professional Tropical and Fresas VJs. From the campy to the grotesque and featuring telenovela clips, cheesy Mexican 80’s music videos and archival TV footage, CINEMA SALVAJE is a celebration of pop culture in the so-called underdeveloped world and features some of the artistic influences from the people who bring you Cinema Tropical and Fresa Salvaje.
The screening is followed by the New York debut of Afrodyke and our special guest DJ’s Güagüis (Ali Gua Gua), Pata Pata (Camilo Lara) from Mexico City and for the taco de ojo, the one and only Papichulo, who will take you to the deepest and cheesiest nostalgic corner of your memory.
Ali Gua Gua is the mastermind behind bands like Utrasonicas and Afrodita. Miss Ali represents for every chilango the epiphany of the reventón [hard parting] as she is a true musical trendsetter. Camilo Lara is the Mexican Institute of Sound, a one-man project that combines old classic rhythms and songs with new electronic music creating a fascinating unique sound. He will be spinning as DJ Pata Pata the music that inspires his work.
