Oh OPORTO!!!!!!!!

The northern capital OPORTO is a paradise for shoppers. There are so many places to shop, whatever your budget. Apparentely, Oporto has a deserved reputation for producing and designing fashion, footwear and jewelery. Some of our favorites finds were in the Santa Catarina Shopping District. The city features some of the best architecture I've seen...it's very 1940's meets 1970's but modern at the same time. Super Elegante!!!!

After being a bit overwhelmed by how many shoe stores there are in OPORTO we decided to take in a coffee at the popular Magestic Cafe.

Lots of Spanish Chain Stores like BLANCO.....

Hairsalons just like ours on Rivington...although I think this advertising is much better than some of ours...

The city teatro where we missed out on seeing the opera Carmen...love the tile....

Nothing ends a good day shopping better than an outdoor cafe and a SAGRES cerveja.

Loving LISBON.........

Hiding in the Hills of Bairro Alto we found a few cool shops, although I was sadly suprised to find out most don't carry Portuguese labels!!!!!!!

Sneaker Delight on Rua do Norte, 32...carries hard to find styles similar to ALIFE and has a DJ after 7pm...and really cool art on the walls.

Fun Comic book style tiles in the LISBON Metro.....

>

An AD for MANGO in the Mondrian themed OLAIAS METRO station
Everyone seems to be jumping on the bandwagon in the whole celebrity designs for big SHOP....Milla Jovovich is currently debuting a collection for Spanish chain MANGO...super cute stuff....beats Kate's designs for BARNEY hands down.

On the Road: Madrid and Lisbon

Apologies in not updating our blog sooner. We had a few technical glitches: no internet the past two days at the hotel!!! Well, we are now up and running (we actually had to change hotels).

We spent Saturday afternoon at some of our favorite shops in madrid: The DELI ROOM and FRANKA. For the past few years, the DELI ROOM has made a name for itself by showcasing hot young Spanish designers like Miriam Ocariz, Ailanto, Jocomomola, Josep Font and much more. We scored a fun tshirt by Miriam Ocariz and managed to resist temptation or we would have bought two. Upsetting as it is the dollar won't buy squat and the price of clothing is only rising in Madrid. The tshirt was 64 euros...the second one was lovely but at 106.00 it was bit steep for us.

Plus we wanted to save room for FRANKA where we found a faux snakeskin zip up jacket with short sleeves. FRANKA carries labels from Argentina. Super cute stuff that doesn't cost and arm and a leg. The cropped jacket from DELACRUZ was well worth the 96 euros and I'm hoping we can contact the label so that we can carry the label at Lola y Maria!!!!!! If anyone out there knows how to get in touch with them please let us know!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday shops are closed in Spain, except for FNAC and the outdoor flea market called the RASTRO...hoards of people go to the RASTRO on Sunday mornings where you can find antiques, records, clothing and other random items. We did find a cute stand with some tshirts.

WHAT: Travessia's Grand Opening

WHERE: Travessia

WHEN: Thursday May 3rd

WHY: Travessia is a gallery and boutique fusing visual arts and creative apparel in an
interactive experience

The Canal Chapter presents Sex, Drugs and Violence

New York, NY (April 2007) – With the cultural influence of writers such as J.G. Ballard and Cormack Mc Carthy, the films of David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino, the rise of ultra-violent first person shooter games such as the Grand Theft Auto franchise and Doom, the onset of Gangster Rap as the accepted theme music for urban culture, and the graduation of unarmed fighting on broadcast prime-time TV to mixed martial arts, anything goes bloody submission matches, it must be realized that the ideas of the 60's that were previously represented by the love and peace axiom, Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll, has been replaced by a culture heavily saturated with violence, pornography and war. Violence has become the new rock-n-roll in a culture where even the last great rock star of our time, Kurt Cobain who headed his super-group Nirvana in the 1990's, decided to end his life by blowing his head off with a shotgun. This, coupled with the ramifications of the political constructs created by the 9/11 terrorist attacks on international political spheres of influence, has produced new forms of fear and lust in the modern human. These factors add up to produce the maxim of this show, Sex, Drugs and Violence as an anthem to be used as a defining slogan of the 21st century. The artists represented here in this show have created new work for this exhibit using such diverse media as drawing, painting, video, sound art, photography, collage and sculpture in order to delve deeply into the chaos that is our modern existence.
