NYC Volkswagen Traffic Jam this Sunday!

First annual to be held Sunday August 22, 2010!

The Traffic Jam is a spectator-judged vintage Volkswagen car show and picnic on historic Governors Island in New York Harbor—the first ever in NYC. Get bumper-to-bumper with Beetles, buses, dune buggies, Things, and other original and custom VDubs circa the 1950's through the late 1970's from NYC and beyond.The event is open to all. So whether you're a spectator or a classic VW owner or enthusiast, join us for a sweet day of vintage cars, picnicking on the lawn, events, music, and more!

Click here for event day information and activities. The public attends FREE from 10AM-4PM. At this car show, the audience decides "Best in Show" for each VW class...so come and vote your favorite vehicle.

Civil War Weekend at Governors Island this weekend 8/8 and 8/9

They will be a full day of actives on both days from 10:30am to 4:00pm

This is only Saturday schedule:

Cannon Demonstrations: 11:30, 1:30, 3:30 (Please meet at the soldiers’ camp)

Introduce yourself to officers, their wives and prisoners inside Fort Jay and

soldiers and a laundress at the Civil War camp.

Meet Confederate Prisoners and their Union Guards at Castle Williams.

Governors Island Music School performances throughout the historic district.

45-min walking tours with a National Park Ranger :25 after the hour from 10:25

AM to 3:25 PM starting at the top of the hill at Soisson’s Dock.

Free use of a bicycle every Friday on Governors Island for an hour.

This is a great way to start the weekend out!
Bike and Roll Free Bike Fridays Every Friday is “Free Bike Friday” at Bike and Roll.
The entire fleet of adult and kids bikes available for rent for up to one hour at no charge on a first come, first serve basis.
After one hour, regular rates apply.
Free Bike Fridays is made possible through the generosity of Bike and Roll.
• Adult and kids bikes free for one hour
• Regular rates apply after the first hour
• Helmets available, required by NYS
• law for children under 14
• ID required • and tandem bicycles
• Regular rates apply for quadcycles and tandems
On Fridays, bike rentals are available until 3:30 PM.
All Bike and Roll bikes must be returned by 4:30 PM.
