Sounds of the City:

This Friday Juliana Yaffe sings.

Juliana Yaffhas established herself as one of the finest female song recitalists devoted to a genre of solo vocal recital last championed by the famous Dutch soprano Elly Ameling. The intimacy of poetic expression, and the subtlety of interpretation in Ms. Janes-Yaffé's performances has won her acclaim from both professionals and audiences all over the world.

Danny Hobart Opening

Danny Hobart
If I Should Die Before I Wake

October 24 - November 29, 2008
Opening: Friday, October 24, 6-8pm

526 West 26th Street, Suite 211
New York, New York 10001
phone 212 462 4404 / fax 212 462 4406

For those of you who don't already know Danny, his film and video work has been shown widely in the US and Europe (mainly nyc) and this is his first solo show of paintings. In this particular exhibition, he "explores the fabricated nature of memory and experience in the equivalently illusive medium of painting, borrowing styles from 16th - 19th century painters." I'll spare you the additional florid details, and let the paintings themselves do the rest of the talking.

The Wrestler closes the NYFF

Last night we made out like banditas and managed to get dead center seats at THE WRESTLER. Completely worth seeing. The movie is funny and F*#$'d up at the same time. Award winning performance by Mickey Rourke - perhaps this could put him back on the map. Originally Nicholas Cave was going to play the part but Darren felt like he had to get MR on this. The film is due to come out in December.
