"Frida" - A Love Story
Tori Nichel's Spring 2007 collection "Viva la Vida", "Live the Life", is inspired by the colorful life, love and sadness Frida Kahlo experienced in her lifetime and conveyed through her art.
Tori Nichel captures the romance and sensuality Frida expressed through her usage of delicate lace, low cut backs and plunging necklines.
Tori Nichel builds on the success of her fall dresses this season by adding printed jerseys and playful cocktail mini's to the offering.
Staying true to her signature tailored details, Tori Nichel continues to expand her intricate pleat details in her jackets and adds mitering to her high waist trouser silhouette.
Tori Nichel on Spring, "I want Tori Nichel's woman to be simply chic in a effortless and understated manner. It's about romance and beauty in a non-girly way."

-Max Décharné
About the designer:
Melting together luxury fabrication and simplicity, Michelle Nguyen's new line Quail, provides the modern woman with a new twist on timeless classic. Quail launched its first women's collection in Spring 2006 after recognizing the gap in the market for beautifully inspired clothes with an inviting price point. As a native Californian with family roots in Vietnam, Michelle Nguyen has always been intrigued with vintage charm and modern simplicity. From rummaging through antique shows with her mother to spending countless hours in performing arts, she always found an outlet to express herself in unconventional ways.
At the age of 23, Michelle Nguyen's story reads like a designer Cinderella story. Instead of attending a design school, Nguyen graduated from Biola University in Los Angeles, California in 2005 with a degree in Communications. She spent years in school planning a future in public relations while in the mean time, designing, reconstructing, and inspiring those around her. After an internship at the retail chain, The Closet and a Bachelor Degree under her belt, Michelle boldly started Quail. Since then, she has secured accounts with many specialty boutiques around the US and Japan. Her fearlessness and instinctive comprehension of fashion, gave her the right tools to not only exist in this market but succeed greatly.

This Weekend: About Town
Tonight would probably be spent best at home with a good video. Pretend that you are in LA enjoying 80 degree weather instead of mid march slush.
Here are a few recommendations:
BAD INFLUENCE: Michael, a wimpy young executive, is about to get pulverized by a jealous boyfriend in a bar when a handsome, mysterious stranger steps in--and then disappears. Later that night, while jogging, Michael runs into the stranger on a pier. He introduces himself as Alex, and the two go out to an under- ground club. Within a matter of days, Alex wheedles his way into Michael's life and turns it upside down, and Michael doesn't realize that Alex is a dangerous sociopath until it's too late. From the director of LA Confidential. Super 80's Film Noir.
TO LIVE AND DIE IN LA: L.A. branch Secret Service Agent Chance obsessively hunts for counterfeiter Rick Masters, who is responsible for the murder of his former partner and mentor. A dark version of Miami Vice but set in 1985 LA.
LESS THAN ZERO: Clay, an eighteen-year-old freshman, comes back from his first term at a college in New Hampshire to spend his Christmas vacation with his broken-up wealthy family in Los Angeles. His former girlfriend, Blair, is now involved with his ex-best-friend, Julian. She warns Clay that Julian needs help: he is using a lot of cocaine and has huge debts. What follows is a look at the youth culture of wealthy post adolescents in Beverly Hills (1987).

SUNDAY
TAKE A TRIP TO THE MET AND GET YOUR ART ON....
"Barcelona and Modernity: Gaudí to Dalí" presents Barcelona as a booming industrial city with conflicting politics and revolutionary works of art, architecture, and design. To explore the relationships among the visual arts, broader cultural activity, and political events of the era, the exhibition is organized in nine thematic sections, beginning with the origins of the Catalan Renaissance. The remaining sections focus on the major artistic movements that followed: Modernisme, Noucentisme, and other avant-garde idioms such as Surrealism, with a final section on works of art influenced by the Spanish Civil War.

Give me Liberty!
Nothing says spring and summer this year more than printed fabrics. One of our favorite prints for the season being those of LIBERTY. First issued in England in the 1890s, Liberty Art Fabrics, as they were once known, featured small-scale motifs, often imitating Indian and Persian fabrics. Nave, exercises some of this liberty nostalgia this spring with their classic long sleeve button downs or their playful puff sleeve version. The prints boast a multitude of the rich color: tomato red, watermelon, coral, crimson, raspberry and fuchsia pink! Yum! And they work so well with whites (white jeans, a cute white a line skirt, or layerd under a sporty jacket). Shop these styles HERE

BLAME IT ON RIO
Coven by Brazilian Designer Liliane Rebehy
A promising member of the new generation of Brazilian designers, Coven has once again showed off precisely what a chic summer is going to be made of: art meets girly. For Spring Summer 07, Liliane (recognized as a master of knits) focuses on graphic compositions, working with striped knits, and mixing pure colors in Kokosalakiesque shapes.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen
The collaboration between Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) Danger Mouse (Gnarls Barkley), Paul Simonon (The Clash), Simon Tong (The Verve) and Afrobeat drummer Tony Allen (Fela) played to a sold out crowd last night at Webster Hall. Dressed in fine threads (top hats and pinstripe suits - super Mafioso) they seemed to please the crowd playing many songs from their latest album and managed to create a sort of old time circus atmosphere starting the show with vaudeville-esque sword swallowing and other side show stunts. Paul Simonon was definitely playing the crowd and received a lot of attention from the ladies (most of them surprisingly under 25!) Good Show, Good Album...have a listen

Rolling Stone's Rock and Roll Circus
The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus is a film released in 1996 of a December 11, 1968 event put together by The Rolling Stones. The event comprised two concerts on a circus stage, and included acts such as Eric Clapton, The Who, John Lennon, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull, and Jethro Tull. John Lennon and Yoko Ono also performed as part of a supergroup called The Dirty Mac, along with Eric Clapton, Mitch Mitchell, and Matthew S. McGuire. It was originally meant to be aired on television, but the Rolling Stones withheld its airing and release.
The Stones contended that they withheld its release due to their substandard performance because they had taken the stage early in the morning and were exhausted. Many others contend that the real reason for not releasing the video was that The Who, who were fresh off a concert tour, upstaged the Stones on their own production. The Stones had not toured in a while and were not in top playing condition, as the Who were. On the contrary, I felt the Rolling Stones put on an amazing performance...Mick Jagger seems in fine form (probably high as a kite)....a must see...support NYC public channel 21 and buy the DVD (and CD) for $125.

"That 70s Show is an ode to a city long forgotten, a city on the brink of bankruptcy, rife with anarchy, brimming with uninhibited flavor and fearless adventure: New York City in the 70s. The exhibition pays tribute to the people of New York—from the pimps and the pushers to the police and the politicians, the musicians and the artists to everyday citizens—whose perseverance during these years reveals the true spirit of our city. That 70s Show takes us back to a time of crisis and creativity, anxiety and artistry, madness and majesty—when genius burned up the sky like the Bronx on fire."

Zodiac
About: the film based on the Robert Graysmith books about the real life notorious Zodiac, a serial killer who terrorized San Francisco with a string of seemingly random murders during the 1960s and 1970s
We suggest you see this flick for it's great acting (Robert Downey Jr, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Mark Ruffalo are top notch!), art direction (super 1970's), editing and music....the ending track, Hurdy Gurdy Man, from Donovan gives the film a Scorcese-ish feel.....
Fashion Highlights: Especially for the boys (bow ties, RDJr's flamboyant scarves and perfectly fit jeans, plaid shirts, and quilted hunting jackets) For her: Chloe's simple parted down the middle hair with cute turtlenecks and simple long necklaces)

Cheap Mondays
Okay, I'll admit, I was skeptical. Until I decided to just go for it. It was my hubby's bday Sunday and I decided he would be the guinea pig. And guess what, everything you've heard....It's true. Örjan Andersson, the designer of the the Cheap Monday Brand, has managed to find a way to make premium denim cheap. The shop owner noticed that there was a lack of brands providing quality denim at a reasonable price. The trick for keeping them low? The slim fitting jeans, bearing an almost cartoonic skeleton logo come unwashed so they save on costs for washing....and why not? Pay 1.50 to wash your new favorite jeans and you are saving over $100. It almost excuses you buying them in every color! Cheap Monday Jeans for boys are available at one of our favorite boy stores, Odin. $65 a pair.

Style Icon: Veruschka von Lehndorf
Of all the players in Michelangelo Antonioni's cult 1966 film BlowUp, there was one legendary enough to star as herself.
Veruschka - the model whose farout features dominated fashion magazines in the late '60s - appeared for hardly five minutes, but her performance was electrifying.
Announcing herself ("Here I am") at the studio of the David Bailey-esque photographer (played by David Hemmings) barefoot and in a black mini-dress, she proceeded to seduce the photographer's lens by writhing on the floor like a wildcat, while he sat astride her, snapping furiously."
She moves like nobody on earth," Hemmings sighed afterwards.
