About Fresa Salvaje Productions
In the summer of 2005 visual artist Dulce Pinzón and independent curator Aldo Sánchez [aka DJ Papichulo] created Fresa Salvaje Productions; an initiative set to expose music, culture and visuals from Mexico and beyond.

Since its inception, Fresa Salvaje vowed to bring an alternative to the mainstream "Latino Scene" [salsa,merengue,reguetón, etc.] by avoiding musical redundancy and instead focusing on new, classic and rare musical spanish-sung gems.
What you can expect to hear: psychedelic oldies, mambo, kitchy heart breaking ballads, cumbias, Mexican wedding songs, telenovelas themes and scores, punk, new wave, 60's and 70's rock and roll covers + much more!

Every event is accompanied by visuals of Mexican-born California-based artist Juan Luna-Avin. Avin takes our patrons through a visual journey using iconic images that define Mexican culture and society, a definitive must see for any visual enthusiast.

Fresa Salvaje has been carried out to great success in places like The Lucky Cat Bar in Williamsburg, The pre-Latin Grammys 2006 party at La Esquina Restaurant, 205 Club, The Delancey and the Speak Easy in Manhattan to name a few. With a fun based composed of 300 + fun Latino and non-Latino party goes and the party continues to grow dramatically.
Fresa Salvaje has presented talents like Mexican Institute of Sound [Noiselab], Maria Daniela y su Sonido Lasser [EMI, Nuevos Ricos], Zemmoa y La Prohibida from Spain [in collaboration with Nacotheque].

"LBD"

A little black dress is a short, unfussy evening or cocktail dress, popularized in the 1920s by the fashion designer Coco Chanel with her "Ford" dress, as Vogue later called it. Like the Henry Ford’s cars, it was an instant craze, widely available and, like the Model T, it came in only one color, black. Chanel's dress was designed to not show stains and to fit every woman. Coco believed that fashion should be functional.
The "little black dress" is considered by many women to be an essential part of a complete wardrobe. It is a well-known "rule of fashion" that every woman should own a simple, elegant black dress that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Its ubiquity is such that many refer to it by acronym, LBD.

**Tonight, Henri Bendel is treating special invitees (super VIP's, and Genart Associate Producer Members) to cocktails and an exclusive style panel moderated by Full Frontal Fashion's Christina Ha. The panel will feature input from four of the hottest contemporary emerging designers: Michelle Smith of Milly, Amy Smilovic of Tibi, Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia and Alexis Phiffer of Ghita.

Patent Party

One of the biggest trends this Spring/Summer revolves around a love for all things Pantent Leather, especially for shoes and bags. We first spotted this patent leather resurgence last summer with YSL's patent muse. Chanel outdoes itself this spring with these delicious patent leather and transparent vinyl tstraps. Shoptalk: Bblessing

If you've still haven't been blessed to experience this men's shop devoted to art, film, fashion and music, today is the day. The interior alone is wonderfully haunting featuring blood red walls, dark wood bookcases, and vitrines displaying accesories. The shop stocks clothing labels such as Surface to Air, Rag & Bone and their own label Bblessing. But it gets better...other great finds include:
Books: F Scott Fitzgerald, Leonard Cohen, and Andy Warhol
Music: Rare CDs & Vinyl (the last time I was there I picked up the Best of Roxy Music)
Accesories: Lace adorned Candles, Black "Gunpowder" Candles, Brass Knuckles, lots of Skeletons, deer heads
Videos: DVDs such as Andy Warhol, Videodrome, Charles Eames, The Man who fell to Earth
Oh, and I forgot to mention that the shop showcases the work of some really amazing photographers. So basically, it functions as a gallery.

Moschino: Cheap and Chic

There is no fashion label more playful, quirky, or irreverent than Moschino. I have loved the Chic & Cheap line since I bought my first moschino belt in 1987. One thing is...it's more cheap than chic. However, with a little patience and some good bidding skills you can score some cool vintage Moschino bags online on ebay. For Valentine's I treated myself to this leather heart shaped version with a cool chain handle for under a $100! Surprisingly, there is another heart tote up right now selling for $195usd. Other succulent items currently up for bids on ebay include this classic classic zipper tote from the 80's, a crazy soccer jersey, and a hot leather skirt with chanelesque chain detailing at hem.

Fashion Flick of the Week - "Arabesque"

Feel like having a lazy afternoon? "Arabesque" the 1966 adventure/romance film starring Gregory Peck and the absolutely drop dead gorgeous Sophia Loren is not only shot well (the art direction is super mod), but its funny and action packed. However, it's alone worth watching for the fashion (all of Sophia Loren's wardrobe was designed by Christian Dior). Fashion favorites include a red patent leather raincoat, classic white jackie o type dresses, white thigh high mod boots, and my favorite, a kelly green coat paired up with a lovely cheetah hat. Overall this has got to be one of the most beautifully photographed movies ever made. It's very Hitchcock meets James Bond. The music is good too (scored by Henry Mancini). Hands down worth the watch.

The Lowdown on London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week comes to end. So what ruled the runway?


1) The Eighties trend continues to rein...but it's much more a uber fashion, 1986 a la Catherine Denueve in the Hunger or Jami Gertz in "Less Than Zero". Go buy a vintage TAXI magazine from Gallagher's and you will see where all
the references are coming from this fall 2) Velvet - it was everywhere. It's an official trend for Fall 2007. Julian Macdonald featured numerous baby doll dresses in rich jewel tones of green, dark navy, and black. Christopher Kane worked the high waisted skirt look in velvet and he also paraded his models
in velvet mini dresses, done in ruby, emerald, and blood red. 3) Black is back (again) whether in leather, fur, satin, and especially our new favorite friend... VELVET. 4) 60's silhouettes...My favorite interpretation of this look was by Gharani Strok (see pic above). She should win the award for best use of embellishment. Gorgeous Sailor Buttons. She sticked to the winning red, white and black color palette but also threw in some magenta (my second favorite color right now) 5) Best Hair: Paul Smith dolled up his models with 20’s wavy bobs & pearls..sort of preppy CHANEL. Okay, we've seen it before
but it's such a pretty look. 6) Biggest Drama at the Door: Chaos at many of the shows.People were sitting on each other’s lap at the Christopher Kane show. Naughty New York fashion behavior has arrived to LFW! Let's just hope Lil Kim doesn't make it out there 7) Leggings: sorry their back. If you want an updated look, go for ones with stirrups 8) Long gloves: If you missed the trend again (it's been about 2 yrs now), you can pick some up for next Fall. My suggestion is to buy some on EBAY. 9) Hooded Dresses - as seen at the PREEN show. Very Grace Jones meets 80's supermodel style. 10) Ruffle Necks -perhaps you were hoping this look would go away. Apparently it hasn't..tons of bows, and ties for a super lady like look for Fall. Did I forget anything? Velvet? That or Sienna Miller sporting the bodysuit and tightsagain at the shows in London. We thought we saw the last of that look at her premiere of Factory Girl.

Geren Ford Spring - available at Lola y Maria

Geren ford says she usually gets inspiration for her collections via her travels abroad. Spring 2007 draws inspirations from her travels to Turkey as well as something as cool as a vintage Mercedes. To get my mind off of the NYC slush I'll daydream myself in a light blue mini convertible benz wearing this new shirtdress over some skinny white jeans, classic slicked back ponytail and sunglasses!

Fashion Style Icon: Edie Sedgwick

She was an American actress, socialite, debutante and heiress who starred in many of Andy Warhol's short films in the 1960s. She was the original famous-for-being-famous girl. The Sydney designer showed her collection today and we just had to share how much we love this parka! The color is brilliant(still loving the royal blue) which looks fresh paired up with dark colors like olive and brown.
